Job Description

Position Title: Director of Studies

Job Category: Fixed Term Contract / 2-9 weeks June – August 2016 6 days per week

Division: Embassy Summer

Direct Manager: Centre Manager

Location: Centre to be advised

Job Purpose:

Ensure Customer satisfaction through management of the Academic course delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Day to Day management of students: testing, classing, progress, class/course changes, academic counselling, complaints 
  • Student Teacher induction, scheduling, development, quality control 
  • Administration, attendance, reports, exams (Trinity)
  • Forward planning: students, courses, ratios, teachers
  • Managing teaching resources
  • Teaching as required including group leader & staff workshops
  • Promote team spirit at all levels and ensure full communication with all employees within the Centre
  • In-centre liaison including with the Activity Management Team to ensure an integrated Academic & Activity programme
  • To ensure high levels of student Safety and Welfare are maintained in line with Statutory, Accreditation and Company Guidance
  • To support other managers and carry out other duties as assigned
  • To carry out 24hr emergency duty (on a rota basis)
  • To carry out residential supervision duties, including meal and bedtime supervision 


Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to lead and inspire  teachers 
  • Interpersonal Skills


Qualifications and Training:

  • First Degree or Equivalent ( Level 6 Qualifications and Credit Framework)
  • Level 7 Qualification (DELTA, Trinity Lic. Diploma in TESOL, MA in ELT or Applied Linguistics


Experience Required:

  • Working with students aged under 18
  • Summer School experience
  • Residential experience
  • Experience of administering placement testing


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to work in a high pressured environment
  • Flexibility & Enthusiasm
  • Good time management skills



  • Salary depends on the size of the centre and the experience of the applicant
  • This post is residential (full board accommodation is included)
  • Your pay is broken down as Basic Pay + Holiday Pay.
  • Your holiday pay will be paid fortnightly
